Martin Bluff Road Widening Project Progress Update: Ongoing Construction and Commitment to Completion

Gautier, Mississippi; January 24, 2024 – The Martin Bluff Road Widening Project, which resumed on December 18, 2023, following the approval of the latest Supplemental Agreement by both the Mississippi Transportation Commission and Gautier City Council, is still actively underway.
Unforeseen field conditions, particularly the discovery of unsuitable materials at the project site, necessitated adjustments in the contract.
The supplemental agreement specifically addresses increased project quantities and modifications to the project timeline. Although the current contract extends through the end of July, contractors estimate that the project’s completion may take approximately a year, as communicated in previous press releases.
While contractors have been working and filling potholes, the ongoing road construction and presence of heavy equipment will lead to the continued appearance of potholes. In accordance with the contract, the contractors will continue filling these potholes throughout the project’s duration.
Mayor Casey Vaughan stated, “Despite challenges, the City, in collaboration with contractors and engineers, is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the project. For safety reasons, kindly exercise caution and adhere to the construction speed limit when driving through the area, especially in the presence of workers.”
