Mardi Gras parades roll through Downtown Ocean Springs

Ocean Springs joined the carnival season fun over the weekend with a Saturday doubleheader of parades that rolled through the heart of the city.

In Ocean Springs, the carnival is going strong with two parades happening at once and tons of beads to catch for everyone.

Ocean Springs Elks Carnival Parade kicked started the Mardi Gras festivities in the city this year. Mayor Kenny Holloway would serve as grand marshal of the parade.

The Krewe Unique Mardi Gras Parade followed directly after with the Alcorn State University march band highlighting the afternoon.

Locals from all over the Coast poured into downtown Ocean Springs, sharing their fun and new experiences in the city. Yolie Donley said, “It’s full of energy but it quit raining so we’re all good. No more rain, please. And don’t rain on our parade right.”

Troy Smith said, “My daughter has been coming for years, first time here enjoy it. People everywhere, nice clean, hey it’s the place to be.”

Mallory Myers said, “It was a whole new life for me when I came down here and I love it. I love the colors. I love the culture. I’m a teacher so we get out of school three days and that’s fun too.”
