March is Chronic Kidney Disease Awareness Month
The month of March is recognized as Chronic Kidney Disease Awareness Month.
According to the American Kidney Foundation, about 35.5 million people in the United States currently suffer from chronic kidney disease, also referred to as CKD.
We spoke with Dr. Hoyet Hand with Singing River Medical. He told us all about the disease, what causes it, and how you can help prevent it from impacting you. To hear what Dr. Hand has to say, watch the video above.
According to the American Kidney Foundation, the disease comes with a long list of symptoms. Some of the most common but often missed symptoms include, dry itchy skin, muscle cramps, poor appetite, loss of energy, swollen ankles and feet, and trouble sleeping.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact your doctor.
