March Against Crime
Members of the community marching against the recent violence in Gulfport say they are trying to stop it one step at a time. The Minister’s Alliance of South Mississippi organized Saturday’s march against crime near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Highway 49. The march against crime was specifically held in a traditional black neighborhood. Where residents tell News 25 young lives continue to be taken away by street violence. Fourteen year old Jayshun Smith was among the pack of South Mississippians marching to stop the violence.
Jayshun Smith tells News 25, “I feel like they need to just stop. Just stop because it’s too much for me. I can’t even go outside and play. too much killing, stealing and just too much gang stuff. They just really need to stop. I’m a young person myself but I ain’t never went through all this.”
Jayshun is the cousin of the most recent man to lose his life in a Gulfport shooting, 21 year old Jay Sanders.
