Man Who Stole Refrigerator Caught
A Hattiesburg man is now behind bars after stealing a refrigerator from a D’iberville home on Wednesday morning.
A surveillance camera captured 45-year-old John Sanders using an object to pry open a window on the front of a home that is currently under construction. He can later be seen loading the refrigerator into the bed of his truck before driving away.
How did police catch him? A family member saw the video and contacted the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies soon found Sanders driving the streets of Hattiesburg. D’iberville Police Captain Marty Griffin said, “They were familiar with him. They began to actively look for him for us. As they were looking they just happened to observe him traveling on a roadway there in Hattiesburg pulling a trailer with a refrigerator on the back.”
This does not seem to be a one-time offense for Sanders, officials from Harrison County and Jackson County accompanied D’iberville police to Hattiesburg so they could question him on similar burglaries in their jurisdictions.
