Man wanted in Gulfport manslaughter case turns himself in to police

Townsend

Gulfport Police say a man wanted for manslaughter in a case dating back to this past November is now in custody.

27-year-old Ellis Townsend turned himself in to police on Friday. He was taken to the Harrison County jail and bond was set at $1 million.

Police officials say Townsend assaulted a 75-year-old man on November 18, 2024. Townsend was on duty as a security guard at the time of the incident and punched the victim with a closed fist multiple times until bystanders pulled him off the victim, according to police.

That victim died from his injuries, leading to the manslaughter charge.
