Man wanted in connection with shooting two people in Hancock County found dead

A man wanted in connection with the shooting of two people at a home in northern Hancock County last Friday has apparently died by suicide.

Hancock County Sheriff’s investigators issued warrants for 40-year-old Matthew Cory Rayborn on aggravated assault and domestic violence charges.

Rayborn, who was an employee of the Hancock County School District, had been arrested in 2016 and 2019 on domestic violence charges. It is unclear where he was employed with the district.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, deputies say Rayborn fled to Arkansas and confirmed today that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, which was confirmed by the Fort Smith Police Department.

The February 10th shooting happened at a home near Standard Dedeaux Road and Road 347.

A man and a woman were both injured in the shooting.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this incident.
