Man Struck & Killed by Train in Pascagoula

There was tragedy on the railroad Monday as a man, identified as 41 year old, Anthony Padovano, walking along the tracks in Pascagoula, was struck and killed by a freight train.

The accident happened near the intersection of Highway 90 and Chicot Street, shutting down a nearby railroad crossing for over an hour. At this point, police have not released the man’s name, but they say the man was from Biloxi and appeared to be homeless. According to police, the man was walking west down the tracks when the train struck him from behind. Police say the man was killed on impact and they believe the death was accidental.

Lt. Doug Adams of the Pascagoula Police Department says, “It appears the gentleman was walking west on the tracks and just did not hear the train. It appears that he was homeless. We don’t know for sure. He is not someone who is familiar to us in Pascagoula at this time. He was walking out of one of the camps south of the rail road tracks.”

Police confirmed the train did in fact blow its whistle before striking the man.
