We now have the identity of the man killed in an early morning shooting in Moss Point.
News 25’s Gina Tomlinson takes us to the neighborhood where 43-year-old Ronald Broadnax Jr. of Moss Point was shot and killed.
Moss Point police are trying to figure out what happened on Gautier Street that led to the shooting death of 43-year-old Ronald Broadnax Jr. The Moss Point man was killed early this morning. The deadly gunfire happened houses away from where Larry Kirkland lives. “I heard the sirens and I didn’t even look out the door because I mind my own business, but I woke up this morning, my cousin woke me up this morning and told me that somebody got killed down the street.”
Police say it was shortly after midnight when they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Moss Point resident Louis Jackson Jr. said, “This is a nice neighborhood, but just lately a lot of shootings have been going on.”
Authorities made one arrest at the scene and that suspect is in custody for unrelated charges. Moss Point police are calling this morning’s shooting an isolated incident. Neighbors disagree. “That ain’t the first time it happened around here. We’ve been having a lot of that around here lately, a lot of break ins,” said Jackson.
Jackson tells News 25 he thinks police need to step up patrols here. “I hear shooting all the time at night. People shooting in the air, it’s outrageous.”
While some neighbors are frustrated hearing about this morning’s fatal shooting, others say the death serves as a reminder of how much damage crime can cause. “I lost my son. He killed someone. I lost him for 20 years and I had him this close in the service though. I feel for a person. I know it hurts,” said Kirkland.
Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
