Man shot dead in his vehicle in Hancock County

This morning a man on his way to go fishing was shot to death in Hancock County. That man has been identified as 68-year-old Clifford Burke.
Hancock County Investigator Glenn Grannan says 36-year-old Christopher May is arrested and charged with capital murder and impersonating a police officer.
Authorities were called to Pleasure Street off of Lakeshore Road, right across from Pinchers Seafood, shortly before 5:30 this morning.
Burke was able to flag down a passing vehicle before he passed away from several gunshot wounds. Police say he mentioned he was robbed. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in Gulfport where he later died.
Police believe May used his white Ford Crown Victoria with strobe lights in the grill to trick Burke into believing he was an officer pulling him over. They say May got out of the vehicle, shot Burke twice, and took his wallet before fleeing the scene.
Fishermen who work in the area say they’re shocked by the tragedy. Pinchers Seafood Owner Kendall Marquar said, “This morning when we got here the cops were everywhere. The guy got shot. It’s unbelievable because they go down the street every day fishing at the public boat launch down there, so they go fishing every day and it’s just tragic. It could have happened to any one of us. Today’s the beginning of shrimp season, all the boats back and forth down this road right here. We were coming to work early for shrimp season. It could have been any one of us.”
Authorities say additional charges in this crime could come later.
