Man sentenced to life in fatal Waffle House shooting

A Biloxi man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of a Waffle House waitress in 2015.

Fifty-two-year-old Johnny Max Mount was found guilty of first-degree murder of Julie Brightwell this afternoon after a three-day trial.

Mount shot Brightwell in the head November 27th, 2015 after the waitress told him he could not smoke in the restaurant.

Assistant District Attorney Billy Stage said in closing arguments that Mount had to be held accountable for his actions.

Mount did not react when the verdict was read, but when asked during sentencing if he had anything he wanted to say, Mount asked Judge Lisa Dodson to “finish the seventh crucifixion.”
