Man sentenced for Biloxi carjacking and simple assault on law enforcement officer

Biloxi, Mississippi – District Attorney W. Crosby Parker announced today that 35-year-old Jeremiah Scott McCarthy, of Perkinston, Mississippi pled guilty last week to charges of Carjacking and Simple Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer before Circuit Court Judge Christopher Schmidt.
McCarthy was sentenced to 15 years for Carjacking and 5 years for Simple Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, both sentences being the maximum permitted and ordered to run consecutive for a total of 20 years.
Of the 20-year sentence, 6 years were suspended leaving 14 years to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Upon release from custody, McCarthy will be on post-release supervision for 5 years. The case began on August 16, 2021 when Biloxi police officers responded to the South Mississippi Kidney Center at approximately 5:30 a.m. in response to a carjacking report.
Upon arrival, police learned that a 59-year-old male victim had been waiting on his dialysis appointment when the Defendant ran up to him, pushed him out of his vehicle, and stole it.
“Shortly after their arrival, police located the Defendant nearby in the vehicle. During the course of his arrest, the Defendant refused to comply with officers and kicked an officer in the chest”, said Assistant District Attorney George Huffman, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the State, “I commend the Biloxi Police Officers for their quick action to get this offender off of the streets. It is because of their hard work that we were able to hold this Defendant accountable for his violent acts,” said DA Parker.
