Gulfport Man Killed After Shooting

Two shootings and two deaths in less than 24 hours, the most recent shooting off of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Gulfport.
Authorities say they found 21-year-old Stanton Saunders of Gulfport shot in the chest by the corner of Ganges Street and 34th Avenue. Saunders was transported to Memorial Hospital where he died. Gulfport police tell News 25 witnesses saw Saunders running after he was shot.
Saunders’ cousin Meshak Joy says he was called by a family member about the incident. “Been crying all day. If this is what they wanted to do to hurt me, this is what hurt me. This is what hurt me the most that my cousin is gone.”
Joy tells News 25 Saunders was a good person who didn’t deserve to be shot.
The investigation is ongoing. Police haven’t announced any arrests in connection to the shooting.
