Man Found Dead in Jackson County Pond
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding a man who was found dead in a pond in Ocean Springs today.
Authorities say a maintenance personnel at the Reserve Gulf Hills apartment complex spotted the body in the pond and called authorities around 11:30 this morning.
Jackson County deputies say the coroner took the body from the scene and will perform an autopsy.
News 25 reached out to Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus who says she does not suspect foul play is involved, but cannot completely rule it out at this time.
Residents say no crime scene tape was put up but the community is in disbelief. One resident says he and his wife witnessed the coroner taking the body from the scene. Sam Roe said, “My wife brought our granddaughter over to go swimming and then about 30 to 40 minutes later, they came back and my wife told me what was going on. They’d found a body in the pond. This is something that’s very unusual around here because we’ve been here almost seven years. We’ve never had anything like this.”
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says no cause of death has been determined. The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
