Man Dead After Shooting in Gulfport Last Night

A man sits behind bars after shooting and killing a victim in Gulfport last night.
Nineteen-year-old Gary Desean Perkins of Gulfport is charged with murdering a man, arrested by Gulfport police near the area of Dogwood Court and Holly Circle. Authorities say Perkins shot a 38-year-old man who later died at a local hospital because of his injuries.
Sergeant Damon McDaniel with the Gulfport police says that even though the two recent shootings were less than two miles apart, he says he still wouldn’t put a negative label on this community. “Here lately, yes, we’ve had an influx of crime in this area, but to call it a bad area, I don’t think I would label this area as that. I mean, there’s some good people that live in this community. This community has experienced a lot here lately. I would not dare label this area as a bad area.”
