UPDATE: Hancock County man accused of fathering child with 16-year-old victim

A 44-year-old man is in jail, charged with sex crimes against a minor child.

Dan Cochran was arrested Friday evening, charged with sexual battery and touching a child for lustful purposes.

He was taken to the Hancock County Jail and his bond is set at $100,000 per charge. He is scheduled to be in court on February 28th.

Hancock County Chief Deputy Jeremy Skinner said deputies received a call to talk to a 16-year-old who said she was molested. She told deputies she had been molested and raped over the last several years.

An investigation led to warrants for DNA of Cochran and an 18-month-old baby of the victim to determine paternity, which verfied Cochran was the father.

During the investigation, Hancock County worked with state Child Protective Service, which removed two other juveniles from the home.

The investigation showed additional crimes were committed in other jurisdictions and investigators reached out to those agencies. A warrant for first degree rape has since been issued by Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to investigate the allegations and working with other agencies.
