Man charged with second degree murder in Gulfport

The homeless man killed in an attack in Gulfport on July 14th has been identified.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says the man was 55-year-old Ronald Spencer. The suspect, James Christopher Woodard, who was initially arrested on a charge of aggravated assault, is now being charged with second-degree murder.
Police say the attack happened at a homeless camp in the area of 30th Avenue and 28th Street. The victim was alive, but suffering from serious injuries when police arrived. Woodard was located by Harrison County K-9 and Gulfport officers shortly after.
On July 23rd, detectives received information that Spencer died from his injuries. Now Woodard is charged with second degree murder. His bond is set at one million dollars.
