Man charged with killing or wounding people pleads guilty

A man suspected of killing or wounding people in Mississippi, New Mexico, and Kansas pled guilty to murder today.

Alex Deaton, who is already serving a life sentence for a murder conviction in Rankin County, entered the guilty plea in connection with the shooting death of Brenda Pinter.

This was all part of Deaton’s multi-state crime spree starting with the murder of his girlfriend and a nearby jogger in Rankin County. He’s accused of strangling his girlfriend, stealing her car, and shooting a jogger in February.

He’s charged in Brandon, Mississippi with first-degree murder, auto theft, and drive-by shooting.

Deaton already pled guilty in July 2017 to attempted first degree murder and aggravated robbery in Rankin County.

Today, in Neshoba County, Deaton has been sentenced for murdering Brenda Pinter, who was shot while inside the Dixon Baptist Church.

Police say Deaton then carjacked a New Mexico couple before fleeing to Kansas and shooting the clerk.

Deaton already pled guilty to most of his other charges which will have him locked up for the rest of his life.
