Man arrested in connection to Gulfport shooting
Authorities are now releasing the name of a Gulfport man who was killed yesterday evening. According to Harrison Country Coroner Gary Hargrove, 48-year-old Robert Walters of Gulfport died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Thirty-four year-old Stephen Redmond was arrested around 11 last night in connection to Walters’ murder at a house on Skye Court.
Gulfport police received a disturbance call around 5:22 Tuesday evening. When they arrived they found Walters suffering from a single gunshot wound. He later died of his injuries.
Gulfport Police Sergeant Joshua Bromen tells News 25 this neighborhood is not typically an area for hard crimes. “There have been a few vehicle burglaries in that area, but that’s something we’re following up on. They’re not related. There’s a person of interest in this case, but this area is relatively quiet. It’s a very nice neighborhood. That’s why last night when residents were out there and they were asking questions we were speaking with them. This appears to be a very isolated incident that just happened to take place at this particular residence.”
Redmond is being held on a one million dollar bond.
