Man arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery, 15-year-old charged with armed robbery

On July 7, 2022, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 25-year-old Erick Tyrie Hunt of Jackson, Mississippi on one count of First-Degree Murder and one count of Armed Robbery.

The Gulfport Police Department also arrested 15-year-old Eric Jamorian Chopin of Moss Point, Mississippi on one count of Armed Robbery.

On June 27, 2022, at approximately 6:55 p.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to the area of C Avenue and 32nd Street in reference to a single-vehicle accident. When officers arrived, they located Anthony Lavern Otis suffering from a gunshot wound inside of the vehicle.

Through the course of the investigation, Detectives learned Hunt, Chopin, and Otis were involved in an altercation. The altercation escalated when Hunt and Chopin brandished firearms. Hunt discharged his firearm which subsequently struck Otis. Otis was pronounced deceased on scene.

Hunt and Chopin were processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. Hunt is being held on a $1,500,000 bond and Chopin is being held on a $250,000 bond.
