Man Armed with Pick Axe on the Loose

The search is on for a man armed with a pickaxe. Authorities say he broke into a Vancleave home early this morning.
Jackson County authorities say a homeowner woke up to a man standing inside the house on Wire Road in Vancleave around 1:30 a.m. He was wielding a pickaxe.
The homeowner chased the man into the woods after the man tried to steal his car.
Jackson County investigators were able to identify the armed suspect as 36-year-old Anthony Lee Smith Sr. of Louisiana from a traffic ticket inside his truck parked outside.
Martin Miller lives next to the home authorities say was invaded. He tells News 25 that just a month ago his house was broken into too. Authorities are still searching for Smith. “It’s kind of nerve-racking. I don’t know. I hope they find the guy because of what we’ve been through, it’s kind of uneasy.”
Chief Investigator for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Captain Curtis Spiers said, “He had ran back off into the woods again and ran from the officers and from that time until now, we’re still out combing the woods trying to see if we can find this guy.”
Deputies tell News 25 they found a black zipper pouch outside the victim’s house containing drug paraphernalia.
Smith was last spotted shirtless, darting into the woods near Wire Road and Old Biloxi Road. If you have any information, please call 228-769-3065.
