Man accused of breaking into vehicles in D’Iberville

A man is accused of breaking into unlocked vehicles in D’Iberville and stealing valuables inside.

D’Iberville Police arrested 57-year-old Derike Anderson on 12 counts of auto burglary. He also had an outstanding warrant of touching a child for lustful purposes and a probation warrant for burglary. He was taken to Harrison County jail. His bond was set at $340,000.

D’Iberville Police Capt. Marty Griffin said it was a crime of opportunity. Anderson allegedly was walking along Popps Ferry Road and checking vehicles to find those that were unlocked. When he found an unlocked vehicle, he would go through them and taken anything of value, Griffin said.

None of the vehicles were damaged, Griffin said.
