Making wishes come true at the Mississippi Aquarium

After a year of anticipation, eight-year-old Matti Taylor’s wish of visiting the Mississippi Aquarium finally came true on the same week that marks her one-year anniversary of remission.

While going through her treatments, Taylor dreamed about the beach and visiting the Gulf Coast. This week, Make-A-Wish South Mississippi helped make the young cancer survivor’s dream come true.

Taylor threw out the first pitch at a Shucker’s game, stayed at Margaritaville, played at the beach, and today she got the VIP experience at the Mississippi Aquarium. “(What has been your favorite thing you’ve seen so far?) Penguin. (The penguin? Why?) Because his fur.”

Make-A-Wish South Mississippi Director Shellie Moses said, “We are moving back into our first stage of being able to grant travel wishes. So, we’re looking forward to getting as many kiddos that are on that waiting list and being able to grant as many wishes as possible. We’re looking at probably doing 120 wishes this coming year. So, the support of people like the Mississippi Aquarium here is key to our success and making wishes come true too.”

During the pandemic, Make-A-Wish in South Mississippi was still able to grant 70 non-travel wishes.
