Makin’ Groceries restaurant celebrating one year in Biloxi

A Biloxi business is celebrating its one-year anniversary.

Makin’ Groceries is a plant-based café that offers healthy, plant-based, whole food family meals.

Owner Lauren Turner was a history teacher at St. Martin before deciding to switch careers and become an entrepreneur.

Turner cooks a variety of different dishes and buys from local farmers. She wanted to bring more healthy options to people along the Coast.

Makin’ Groceries specializes in plant-based, whole food meals with those that have allergies and dietary restrictions in mind. Turner said, “Honestly, I was not expecting to blow up like this in such a short amount, but we are truly humbled and grateful by the community response to what we are trying to do here. We are not trying to convert anybody to veganism. It’s not at all what we are trying to do we are just trying to teach people plants are delicious and you need to ear more plants because it is good for you.”

Makin’ Groceries will celebrate their one year anniversary with ribbon cutting ceremony today at 5 p.m.
