Make-A-Wish for Elise
We bring you the heartwarming story of a little girl whose dreams came true. Here’s News 25’s Hank Davis with the latest and greatest from Make-A-Wish’s Mississippi Chapter.
Elise Ritter was shocked after a visit to the nurse’s office led her to the front doors of Biloxi Junior high where her friends and classmates were waiting. Elise has been battling brain cancer for nearly two years and Make-A-Wish and Cruisin’ the Coast had a big surprise for the 11-year-old girl. “My nurse came out and she was saying she wanted to talk to me. She’s a good actress, like I didn’t know. I didn’t know that was all gonna happen and then I thought I was dreaming because I was like ‘Whoa, that’s a lot of stuff,” said Elise.
Elise found out she’s on the way to Disney World, but of course first she needed a classic ride to bring her to her full makeover, fit only for a true Disney Princess courtesy of the team at Sephora in Biloxi. Craig Grisoli with Cruisin’ the Coast said, “To be a part of an organization and an event that contributes money to help get these kids their wishes, it’s fantastic. I mean, we’re living our dreams and we want them to live their dreams, too.”
Shellie Moses with Make-A-Wish South Mississippi said, “This year, they raised $26,000 off the car raffle and that’ll be three wishes that will be granted for local kids in South Mississippi. Elise is the first person. We can’t thank the people from Cruisin’ enough. They are absolutely 100 percent behind our mission and supporting our kids.”
Elise will check in with her doctors at St. Jude’s before she heads to Disney, but her mom, Kristine Ritter, says she’s been an inspiration throughout her battle. “Let me tell you, this little girl has taught me so much through cancer about life and loving life and overcoming obstacles. She is just an amazing little girl who lights up a room when she walks in and she’s not afraid of anything.”
