Make-A-Wish helps six-year-old boy’s dream to see the beach come true
When asked what his wish was, Weston Brown said he just wanted to fish.
Make-A-Wish called up three mayors who knew the best fishing spot, and the coast was happy to welcome Weston.
“This family could have asked to go to Disney World, Hawaii, some of these other things, ” said Biloxi Mayor “Fofo” Gilich, “but it was very cool that he wanted to visit our Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
“This young man wanted to come down here and enjoy what he’s been hearing about all his life, and have a little fun in the sun,” Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes said. “We were really just thrilled and wanted to know what all we could do to make this dream come true and make it a really spectacular experience.”
Weston and his family will spend a week at Margaritaville, on top of a day at Ocean Adventures and the Mississippi Aquarium.
Weston could have gone anywhere in the world, but he chose the Mississippi Gulf Coast. His parents say that it was actually being near the water and fishing that got him through his chemo treatments.
Weston was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in January of 2023. He’s undergone surgery to remove a tumor from near his eye and recently finished treatment.
Weston’s mother, Nicole Brown, said, “He lives for fishing. No matter what he’s going through. Like when we were doing his radiation, we had a stay in Jackson, and we went over to the reservoir every day. Everyday. As long as he did his stuff and he was good, we got to go. If it was raining, he had fishing games indoors. Fishing is his life.”
Of course, Weston and his family will spend a day in Bay St. Louis deep sea fishing.
