Mac Bernard Blackwell Classic south roster features a dozen Gulf Coast standouts

The reality of high school football, or any sport for that matter, is that more teams end their seasons with a loss than a win. This week, the best of the best from across the Magnolia State get the chance to change that in the last game of their high school careers.
Albeit called early due to weather, today was the second day of practice for the annual Bernard Blackwell Classic, set to be played at Gulfport’s Milner Stadium on Saturday.
Representing the south are a dozen players from the Gulf Coast and 17 players total that played in South State or beyond.
Needless to say, the roster is absolutely stacked and the players are pretty familiar with their new teammates even if they never actually shared a locker room together. South Head Coach Matt Caldwell said, “Well, it’s really nice. All of these kids are extremely talented, and then they’ve come down here with a good work ethic and a good attitude ready to get better every day. I think that our job is to keep it simple, and allow those guys to make plays.”
Harrison Central Running back Keon Moore said, “Well, it’s very neat. You get to learn about what they did at their schools, and especially with the players that played against each other, you get to hear them talk mess. Who’s better.”
East Central Tight end Brad Cumbest said, “It’s very different, you’ve just got to get used to it. Because you’re always used to seeing your buddies all the time and now you’ve got to see these dudes you’ve never even spoke to before.”
St. Stanislaus Quarterback Jake Greer said, “”It’s pretty impressive, we’ve just got ballers all over the field. Anybody can make a play at any moment, it’s just spreading the ball to them. That’s my job, and that’s what I’m looking to do Saturday.”
Kickoff for Saturday’s all-star game is set for 11:30 a.m. from Gulfport’s Milner Stadium.
