M.G.C.C.C. Football Team Could Finish with Perfect Season

Ole Miss and Mississippi State aren’t the Magnolia State’s only football teams nationally ranked. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s (M.G.C.C.C.) football team is currently ranked third in the U.S. for junior colleges.

A perfect season, that’s what most teams dream of, and it could be in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College football team’s future. Right now, they sit undefeated at the tail end of the season. Wide Receiver, Tevaris McCormick, a Biloxi native, says, “It’s been going real good. We improve a lot every day. So, we’re stepping up to accept all the challenges that we can take."

As well as the team is performing, they still strive to be better. Quarterback, Thad Miller, a Gulfport native, says, “We’re 7-0, but we’re still not satisfied. We’ll be satisfied when we have a national championship.”

While players come from all over the southeast to be on the Bulldogs team, a number of them are from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. McCormick also says, “Indian tribe all day.”

McCormick is a Biloxi High School alumnus and enjoys being close enough to the Coast where he can go back regularly. He says, “It means a lot. I can go back and see my coaches and stuff and say hey to them, have a nice talk with them, and fly back up here and do what I gotta’ do up here.”

But he, along with other players from the Coast, did not choose M.G.C.C.C. because of its proximity to home. The school’s rich history of players going division 1 and even pro made it a no brainer that this school was the right choice for them. McCormick closes, “A lot of big players came from here and they’re more disciplined and they matured into the game. Based off them, I know if I come here, I’ll mature and get better at the game too.”

McCormick got an offer from Memphis Wednesday night and is expected to receive some more division-1 calls. He hopes to be one of the many football greats who have passed through M.G.C.C.C. The Bulldogs have two more regular season games left before the playoffs, including their homecoming game this Saturday.
