Lyman Elementary students donate to help lineman in Louisiana

Students at Lyman Elementary School in Gulfport are doing their part to help linemen working to restore power in Louisiana.

Hurricane Ida hit almost three weeks ago in Louisiana and many people are still without power.

To help those linemen hard at work, students have been donating snacks, drinks, and baby supplies to help the linemen and their families.

Students and administrators at Lyman Elementary tell News 25 they just want to lend a helping hand. Student Jordan Butcher said, “I feel very sorry for the people that lost many things, but I hope all of this makes them feel a lot better.”

Lyman Elementary Principal William Bentz said, “We’ve been there with Hurricane Katrina and dating back. The students and community have done a great job stepping up and donating supplies for the linemen. It’s really important for us to be there for them and our first responders during those times of need.”

The supply drive will end Friday and the supplies will be dropped of in Louisiana on Saturday.
