Lyman Elementary PE coach creates closet for needy kids
A teacher who saw a need in her school is now changing lives one jacket or pair of shoes at a time.
Tiffany Murray has been a PE coach at Lyman Elementary for a little over a year now and has seen a need for clothes in her students. She says many of her students clothes were dirty, didn’t fit, or had rips and holes.
That’s why during the month of November she took action. She asked for donations on Facebook and was overwhelmed with the response. Over Christmas break, she and some friends took an old storage closet and made it into a full on store for the kids.
Murray says those students in need have had an amazing response so far to their shopping experiences. “We were stacking cups and he was upset because when he would go to stack his cups for his team his shoes were too slick so he kept knocking the cups over for his team. So I brought him in here and he found a pair of Jordans. It still gives me goosebumps, but he was so proud of those shoes. He sat on that floor right there and he looked at me and he said ‘you are so nice.’”
If you would like to make a donation, Coach Murray says you can just drop off the gently used or new items at the school office.
