Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar and Restaurant announces permanent closure

One Biloxi restaurant closed its doors suddenly on Monday morning.

Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar and Restaurant posted a message on Facebook this afternoon announcing it’s permanent closure.

One part of the announcement stated, “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce we are closing our doors today (8/19) after five amazing years.”

No clarification was provided as to why Lucy’s shut its doors, and calls made to the restaurant by WXXV News 25 were not returned.

Throughout the evening, some residents and former employees drove by the restaurant to remember the good times and try to understand why there was such a sudden change.

“It’s strange, it’s kind of odd,” Gulf Coast resident Bill Dixon said. “I’m surprised they’re closing, and why, I don’t know, but I find it a little strange.”

“It’s sad, it’s a really sad place,” former Lucy’s bartender Karie Walter said. “It’s a great location, and a lot of businesses haven’t been able to stay here. Look at the sunset, look at the view we have… it’s gorgeous, and a lot of people that worked here were really great people. It was a great family, it was a good organization to work for.”

“I just found out on Facebook yesterday through friends that work here that it was going to be their last day and I thought that, how sad that they couldn’t even give a notice to the people,” Walter added. “It’s a local business, and the local people need to be… we need employment, it’s a hard time right now.”

Lucy’s did state that its restaurants in New Orleans and Aruba would remain open.
