Lucedale Man arrested, charged with aggravated assault in George County shooting

LUCEDALE, Miss. (WXXV) — A Lucedale man has been arrested and charged following a shooting reported Tuesday night in George County.

According to the George County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:51 p.m. on May 5, 2026, to the 100 block of High Hopes Lane after receiving a report of a male who had been shot.

When deputies arrived, they secured the scene and began an investigation into the incident. Authorities say that through the course of that investigation, the George County Criminal Investigations Division identified 29-year-old Mason D. McCarty of Lucedale as the suspect.

A warrant was issued for McCarty’s arrest, and on May 6, 2026, he was located and taken into custody without incident.

McCarty has been formally charged with aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the George County Regional Correctional Facility, where he awaits his initial appearance before a George County Justice Court judge.

 The investigation remains ongoing. No additional information will be released at this time.
