Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann recognizes schools with high attendance
Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann announced he awarded 130 Mississippi schools the Lt. Governor’s Attendance Award.
The award is granted to schools for maintaining strong student attendance and for keeping chronic absenteeism rates of 15 percent or below.
The Mississippi Department of Education’s 2024-2025 report shows the statewide chronic absenteeism rate rose from 24.4 percent to 27.6 percent, but these schools being recognized have bucked that trend.
Reducing chronic absenteeism has been one of Hosemann’s top education priorities and will continue to be going into the 2026 legislative session.
The local schools recognized are:
- North Bay Elementary
- Creekbend Elementary and Middle
- Orange Grove Elementary
- North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle
- Martin East Elementary
- Singing River Academy
- Martin Bluff Elementary
- Beach Elementary
- Pass Christian Elementary and Middle
