LSU’s Paul Mainieri unphased by Andy Cannizaro’s resignation at MSU

Ever since departing LSU for Mississippi State prior to the 2017 season, Andy Cannizaro has linked the two baseball programs at the hip. Now, for all the wrong reasons, that connection has resurfaced.
Prior to yesterday’s resignation, Cannizaro had led the Bulldogs to an overall record of 40-30 with a Hattiesburg regional title and a Super Regional appearance.
The latter was hosted by his former place of employment and the Tigers certainly made their former hitting coach and recruiting coordinator of three years feel like an outsider.
The Bayou Bengals took down MSU in two games improving their record against Cannizaro to 5-0 last season. All that history between the two brings it back to LSU head man Paul Mainieri, who’s word of choice is, simply, unfortunate. “I actually had no reaction, and it’s really a topic that I would rather not even discuss. It’s unfortunate. It’s unfortunate for Andy, it’s unfortunate for his family, it’s unfortunate for Mississippi State, it’s unfortunate for college baseball. But outside of that I really don’t have anything to say about it. I was as disappointed as everybody else would be to hear the news.”
LSU and Mississippi State are scheduled to meet for a three game series in Baton Rouge from March 29th through the 31st.
