LSU shifting attention from MLB Draft to Omaha
With the MLB Draft now in the rearview mirror, the LSU Tigers can finally refocus on the task at hand. Their first game of the College World Series is just three days away.
Overall, eight LSU baseball players were selected over the last three days, making this a particularly busy week for the Purple and Gold. Six Tigers were off the board in the first ten rounds which was more than any other school in the country.
All the while, LSU has been trying to gear up for its 18th appearance in Omaha, yet still compartmentalizing the excitement of getting drafted and preparing for Florida State. Second baseman Cole Freeman said, “I think a lot of us are really happy the draft is over cause obviously we know where we’re going, we’re going to be playing baseball after this season, but I mean Omaha has been the only thing on our mind, and like I said we can’t wait to get up there and get started.”
Right fielder Greg Deichmann said, “That’s the thing about these group of guys and everybody that was eligible this year. Like I said, we wanted to set ourselves up for the draft, but we’ve been so focused on coming back and winning a national championship. And like I said, we’ve set ourselves up for that this year. Everybody is happy, they got to enjoy the experience with their families, but now that that’s over, like I said, it’s kind of getting the monkey off your back and turn our attention back to what we started.”
Number four national seed LSU and Florida State will play the second game of the day on Saturday at 7 p.m.
