LSU ready for 19th College World Series appearance
When you flip a coin, it’s heads or tails, 50-50, but when it comes to making it all the way to the College World Series, you don’t expect that to be a 50-50 proposition. Yet, it has been for LSU ever since its first trip back in 1986.
The Tigers taking on Omaha for the 19th time in the last 38 years, but this one ends the longest drought during that stretch.
This is where most people expected LSU to be after playing the first 47 games of the 2023 season as the top-ranked team in the country.
The purple and gold never falling below fifth, but stumbling into the NCAA Tournament following back-to-back one-run losses in the SEC dance.
LSU has lost since five straight wins now 48-15 overall. Head Baseball Coach Jay Johnson said, “This is my favorite place in the world and this program has had as good of a history as any program in college baseball of being here. I think in accepting the job, I really wanted this group of players to play here. I mean the guy sitting to my left, he was part of me deciding to come here.”
Outfielder Dylan Crews said, “Little team meeting right after the SEC Tournament and got together and just, we just said give us five games. Give us five games to get here, and play your best baseball that you possibly can. Forget about all the stuff that happened in the season, just focus on the present right now. Give us five games to get here, and I think everything will kind of just take care of itself as soon as we get here.”
LSU and Tennessee lead things off at 6 p.m. tomorrow from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
