Love for Sophia 5K Benefit
Runners were up bright and early Saturday, sweating for Sophia Myers and participating in a friendly 5K run.
Oak Park Elementary put together this fundraiser for seven-year-old Sophia Myers who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February. She is currently getting treatment at Emory University in Atlanta and is going through clinical trials.
Lara Jenkins with Oak Park Elementary tells News 25 it was an even bigger turnout than she expected. “Our turnout exceeded my expectations. We had 140 people prior to today’s sign up and pre-register and I have no idea how many came out today, but more than I can count. We ran out of shirts. We ran out of entry forms. The community support has been amazing.”
All funds raised at the 5K will go towards Sophia’s family’s traveling expenses and her medical bills.
