Our Love Affair with Baseball Luncheon

It’s not everyday Biloxi gets a chance to celebrate a former Major League Baseball star’s birthday right here in his hometown.
Guests filled the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art for the “Our Love Affair with Baseball” luncheon series. This week’s baseball speaker was the Coast’s very own Barry Lyons, a World Series champ in 1986 with the New York Mets.
Lyons wasn’t always on the perfect path to the pros, he said to the crowd today that he constantly battled an alcohol addiction. After 25 years, he was able to turn his life around. Lyons says God is the one who saved him from a very dark time in his life. “Obviously, baseball is an important part in my life. I believe I shared quite a bit about my career and my upbringing in the game and my passion for the game, but the Lord is an almighty God. I just wanted to pay my respects to him and that’s what came out today is who I am in Christ.”
The baseball luncheon happens every Friday in Biloxi. WXXV is a proud sponsor of the event. Barry Lyons will throw out the first pitch tonight at the Shuckers game, in honor of his birthday.
