Our Love Affair with Baseball

Before former Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Matt Miller’s career hit a homerun, he says he almost gave up on the dream of being thrown into the Major Leagues.
Miller was the guest speaker for the “Our Love Affair with Baseball” luncheon at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi.
After playing at multiple levels of baseball and being released from several teams, 31-year-old Miller says he was past the point of hoping he’d hit the ball with a Major League affiliated team.
It was in 2003 when the Colorado Rockies put Miller on the roster. He tells News 25 his journey to the Major Leagues wasn’t easy. “If nobody offers you a contract and you’re already in affiliated baseball, go find an independent league team to play for. Maybe somebody else will see you and you’ll get back into affiliated baseball and work your way up that way. If it’s all you really dream about doing then I wouldn’t give up on it until every door was shut.”
WXXV is a proud sponsor of the luncheon.
Miller also played for Mississippi Delta Community College and Delta State University.
Next week, Pensacola Blue Wahoos announcer Greg Litton will take the stage.
