The lottery is making its way to Mississippi

By the end of this year, Mississippi will throw its hat into the lottery game.

According to the Mississippi Lottery Corporation, December 1st is the expected date to start offering lottery scratch-off tickets.

Retailers interested in selling lottery tickets, including coastal casinos, will have to fill out an application and pass a background check to be eligible.

Mississippi Lottery Corporation Communications Director Meg Annison says funds raised through ticket sales will go back into the state. “We will be the 45th state to have a lottery. Anything up to $80 million that we raise will go to roads and bridges and anything over that will go to the Educational Enhancement Fund which helps with pre-k, class supplies, and things like that.”

There are also proposals for vendors to offer multi-state games like the Powerball and Mega-Millions starting as soon as 2020.
