Loss on senior night doesn’t mean end of the road for USM Basketball
Trending in the opposite direction the last three years has been the Southern Miss men’s basketball program. Winning 29 games under Donnie Tyndall in 2014, the Golden Eagles have only won 25 since his unceremonious departure.
In the meantime, Doc Sadler has been doing the most with the lemons he’s been given, but his teams have still yet to win double digit games in a season since his arrival. Right now, USM is stuck on eight victories after losing to Florida Atlantic on Saturday’s senior day affair.
Although the road has been rocky throughout the Tyndall aftermath, it’s still not the end of it quite yet. “I’ve said this all along, for them to come into the program and stick it out, having opportunities to do other things, this school and fan base owes them so much,” said Sadler.
Southern Miss forward Quinton Campbell said, “I’m going to miss those guys, they already know, we’ve talked about it. I mean it hurts to go out senior night with an L, but it’s not our last game with them. So, we have three more. So, just move on and keep going. Just come to work like we normally do.”
If the Black and Gold can win one of those final three games, they’ll lock up a spot in the 2017 Conference USA tournament. They were banned from post-season play the last two years.
They return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rice.
