Lorraine Road Bridge Closes
The Lorraine Road Bridge officially shut down today for a six month construction project of a brand new bridge.
The $7.5 million project that connects Biloxi and Gulfport will span 3,060 feet over the Biloxi River. Workers are currently setting beams, forming and pouring pile caps and installing dirt on the eastern side of the road. The new bridge is expected to be in place by June. It will open around October of this year. Harrison County District 5 Supervisor Connie Rockco said, “I am so sorry that we have to close it for the length of time that we do but you’re going to be so happy and it’s going to be safe for individuals. I always had this nightmare of this school bus going over the edge. With this new bridge, we won’t have any of those worries, hopefully. I ask them to be patient and I’m sure the board and the cities of Biloxi and Gulfport also asks everyone to be patient, look to the future and see how good this is going to be for Harrison County.”
The project is being funded by the Office of State Aid Road Construction, a division of MDOT, as well as matching funds from Biloxi, Gulfport and Harrison County.
