Loose pig ends up in daycare backyard in Columbus, MS
Kids at a daycare in east Columbus got to see police officers in a different role: animal control. Here’s the story on how officers spent several hours trying to catch the loose animal.
A day care center in Columbus looked and sounded like a rodeo early Tuesday morning. Instead of clowns and cowboys, there were police officers and animal control.
It all started when Darlene Miller and Angela Truelove noticed something strange in the back of Angela’s Care and Learning Center. “This morning around 7, I saw some cats and stuff running across the street. All of a sudden, I saw a big pig.”
“I just come in to work and was taken by surprise, big ole pig.”
The pig was quickly spotted by parents when they begin to drop their kids off at the day care. “As parents, we’re pulling up, one parent called and said, hey Mrs. Angela, you got a pig outside our day care. I was like I know, I’m coming outside real quick. The pig went across the way and finally police showed up with animal control.”
Columbus Police Department brought in their men of squeal to try and capture the road hog, but it would be as easy as, well, catching a greased pig.
For hours, they tried to hog tie the animal before it caused any more damage to the property. “He bust through the gate twice. I don’t know If there is any major damage or anything, on this side, here he through another gate here on the additional side of the playground area.”
It was Columbus City Councilman Stephen jones who came into save the day using skills his father taught him when he was a child.
