Long Beach School District restructuring elementary schools

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV)- The Long Beach School District is making a change to how elementary students will be educated across the district, starting next school year.

Leaders say the move is designed to improve instruction, balance enrollment, and create a more consistent learning experience for students.

The Long Beach School District is moving forward with a comprehensive reconfiguration of its elementary schools.

The decision comes in response to population shifts that have created enrollment imbalances across campuses, as well as a desire to deepen teacher collaboration and continuity in learning.

Beginning next school year, under the new structure, Quarles Elementary will serve pre-k through first grade, Harper McCaughan will house second through fourth grade, and Reeves Elementary will become home to fifth and sixth graders.

The district plans to provide ongoing updates as the transition continues.
