UPDATE: Long Beach man in standoff with police found dead
A man engaged in a standoff on Sunday afternoon in Long Beach had been found dead.
Long Beach Police chief Billy Seal confirmed the death to WXXV, saying the man, identified as 43-year-old Justin Brown, was found dead inside the residence after police made numerous attempts to contact him. The incident ended just before 5:30 p.m.
The investigation has been turned over to MBI, as are any cases in which there is an officer-involved shooting
The standoff began about 12:30 p.m. when police were called out to Kuyrkendall Place off Royal Drive in a domestic dispute.
A subject barricaded himself into a home on Kuyrkendall and police evacuated surrounding houses and closed Royal Drive as a safety precaution.
Mayor George Bass said a couple got into an argument with their adult son, who fired the weapon in the home.
The parents left the home, but when officers arrived on scene, the man fired at officers, who then returned fire.
That’s when the man barricaded himself into the home and the standoff began.
A command post was set up at Pineville Road and Royal Drive.
SWAT, Harrison County, Acadian, Long Beach Police and Fire, Harrison County Fire, Biloxi Police, Gulfport Police and State Troopers are on scene, officials confirmed.
