Long Beach Mayoral Candidate Forum

Long Beach residents had an opportunity to meet the candidates running for mayor during a forum on USM’s campus this evening.
Last fall, Long-term Mayor Billy Skellie announced after 13 years he would not seek re-election. Five candidates took turns answering questions and addressing concerns on topics ranging from casino development to property taxes.
News 25 caught up with residents in the audience to hear what qualities they expect in the next mayor of Long Beach. Long Beach resident Tina O’Shields said, “He is very passionate about making the growth of Long Beach his or her main priority. I just want them to know that we come first when it comes to areas here in Long Beach.”
The five candidates who attended the meeting were George Bass, Leonard Carrubba, Ronnie Hammons Jr., Kevin Ivan Nelson, and Gary Ponthieux. As of March 7th, Lynda Giuffria is listed as a qualifying candidate, but was not at the forum this evening.
