Long Beach mayor proposes new road corridor to aid access to I-10

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV) — Long Beach Mayor Tim Pierce announced during a work session at city hall on Tuesday night that he is hoping to get approval for a new regional corridor aimed at creating easier access to Interstate 10.

Mayor Pierce proposed his plans to the Board of Alderman and community members in attendance. He says the addition would serve as a transportation and mobilization corridor, aiding the Port of Gulfport and the Naval Construction Battalion Center, and serving as an evacuation route for the area.

This comes after a Beatline Road expressway plan went under and the city was left with $16.8 million from the federal government that was meant for the project. Now, he’s looking to submit a white paper in hopes of securing the new project, as that $16.8 million expires in September of next year.

A map of the proposed corridor shows the multiple possible routes, and Mayor Pierce noted that he has already attained support.

The next steps are for the board to vote on the proposal and the development of a white paper for approval.
