Long Beach honors spring athletes
Over at Long Beach High School, a special senior send off for 21 spring athletes who lost their senior seasons due to COVID-19.
Over a two night period, the Bearcat family hit the road to honor those soon-to-be graduates with a bus tour throughout the community and four of those 21 were even honored for their performances in the classroom.
One of Friday’s stops took place at the football stadium where a pair of standout seniors find closure in a make-shift senior night. Long Beach Girls Basketball Small Forward Americus Knight said, “It felt amazing with all that’s going on I would think I wouldn’t get a proper ending so with this it made me feel great.”
Long Beach Track and Field and Soccer Senior Julia Geertsema said, “Everybody is pitching in to really thank all of us and being really excited and joining in on this event. So, it’s like I have my friends here and my family here, but I also have my family and friends supporting me through the phone. So, it’s just been really special to hear that as well.”
Long Beach High School is also honoring the entire senior class of 2020 by continuing to turn on the football stadium lights each night for 20 consecutive days.
