Long Beach honors Class of 2020: Stadium lights turned on for 20 days at 8:20 p.m.

The 240 seniors at Long Beach High School will go down as the class of 2020 that went through something that hopefully no senior class ever has to go through again.

In light of that, school administration is shining a light on those soon to be graduates.

Having started Monday, April 20th, for a span of 20 consecutive days, the football stadium lights are getting turned on at 8:20 p.m, that 20:20 military time, for 20 minutes and 20 seconds in honor of the class of 2020.

This isn’t just an athletic tribute rather a sincere gesture for more than 20 seniors that showed up tonight and every night going forward to give the Bearcat family some much needed closure. Long Beach High Principal Dr. Talia Lock said, “Moments like this, they’re going to be defined as a class that’s resilient and strong and determined. That’s how they’re going to go down in the books. And every student is just honestly embracing each other as a whole class, and that’s just a beautiful moment for the senior class.”

Long Beach Defensive lineman Jerran Evans said, “We wanted to be remembered, the class of ’20, but not like this. You know what I mean? This is something else than we pictured, but at least we’ll be remembered. This shows that our school year really did mean something to us and that all of our friends are going to be missed.”

Dr. Lock says the class of 2020 left a thank you note for administration yesterday for its continued effort to make the seniors feel special despite these unprecedented circumstances.
