Long Beach High sending two to the next level

Two senior standouts at Long Beach are taking their talents to the next level.

Starting with volleyball’s own Bailee Schmitt, putting pen to paper with the W, Mississippi University for Women, where she’ll spend the next four years on the court. Schmitt was a key cog for the Lady Bearcats en route to their 5A South State championship victory over East Central.

Next up we take it to the baseball diamond for Ashton Schepens, who is heading off to Pearl River Community College to join the defending national champs. Schepens said, “Yes, sir. I’m like, it’s a good program. It’s a pipeline to DI baseball, so I feel like it’s the best decision for me.”

Schmitt said, “I don’t think this moment was real, but finally when I did it, it felt like I’m ready to go and I want to do it. I can’t really describe it. It’s just like I want to, and I’m ready to play.”

Schmitt says she’s been playing volleyball since the eighth grade and Schepens with baseball since he was four-years-old.
